Does anyone know how to tell Google/gmail to just stop with all AI “features”

I never want an AI summary of a long thread especially when I was literally in the middle of reading it, closed my phone because I was driving somewhere and then when I reopen gmail it has closed all the emails I was reading and only shows me a useless AI summary.

I do NOT ever want such a useless set of characters. If I want the emails (this is a list I’ve been on for decades) I want to read the actual messages

@Rycaut Proton mail. Forget the google
@h2lift @Rycaut
Also made the transition to Proton recently. Yeah you have to pay but that’s kind of the point.

@h2lift I have 1M+ emails in gmail - I can't "forget" them - I have been migrating critical stuff to an email and domain I control - but I literally have nearly 20 years of my life archived in gmail - so search and features there are critical for me - and exporting 1M messages (I'm not exaggerating) is non-trivial.

Also anything I switch to has to be seamless between my iPhone and my browser - I switch between them constantly and I live in my email (more than text or any other app)

@h2lift more than just the 1M+ emails I have nearly 60GB of archived mail - meaning I would need to commit to the $9.99/mth plan if I switched to Protonmail and I would then also rely on mail forwarding from gmail to proton mail for critical emails (like time sensitive verification codes) which feels risky
@Rycaut I guess that's the difference. I was happy to see my old emails disappear. I use Proton' s other products, so it was an easy choice for me, even if costs money.
Good luck with your Gmail!
@Rycaut @LJ Yeah it’s simple: use a different email service.
