@MightyRedPanda Pinch off leaves/stems just above where a couple leaves come off the stem - more than half the time, the leaves will develop into new branches. That's how you get bushy basil instead of a single huge stem. Harder if it's gone woody, which yours may have - so you may end up with a bush on top of the stem. And as someone said, they don't last all that long, harvest and eat regularly so you don't lose it without ever getting to eat any.
