1/🧵 Many consider Ranni's ending to be the "best" in terms of outcomes. I vehemently disagree.

True, it is probably "best" for the Tarnished, but it resolves none of the problems that are within the Lands Between. It leaves the same power-vacuum in place as exists at the start of the game.

If the Tarnished can't solve the problems in the Lands Between, why should we believe that they can solve those problems wherever they end up with Ranni?

All the endings are "Bad" in that they only can resolve the problems of the Lands Between in imperfect ways.

It's an ethical dilemma about how to distribute "pain". eg The Dung Eater's ending is the most equal, but Fia's might be the most equitable. The Golden Order's ending minimizes the "pain" for those apart of it, by placing that pain disproportionately on Those Who Live in Death.

3/🧵I could be convinced that Frenzied Flame is actually the "best" ending in that it reduces the most amount of total pain by absolutely incinerating everything everywhere all at once, today. Therefore there is no more future pain to be endured by anyone.

4/🧵

Coming back to the start of the thread: Ranni's ending is the most selfish, individualistic ending that solves absolutely nothing for the denizens of the Lands Between - and choosing this ending is the opposite of what an Elden Lord would do.

All it does is avoid having to make a hard decision where there are no "good" options. It is the coward's choice.

I think that cinematically and thematically, Ranni's ending is probably the most "fun", though.

5/🧵

Its been suggested to me that Ranni's ending removes the influence of the Greater Will. This is an improvement than where the Lands Between stands at the start of the game. Though that by itself doesn't guarantee a "better" distribution of "pain" than the other endings. But it does provide for the _potential_ of a better future.
