This social club was built in 1937 for the workers of a nearby paper mill. It was abandoned when the mill closed in 2001.

There was a bar where workers could unwind with a pint and enjoy a game of snooker after a hard day in the mill. There was also an auditorium with a stage where children of millworkers and the nearby villages would perform.

I wonder if it was also built by the workers (from their contributions) rather than a benevolent employer?
