@ami_angelwings huh I actually looked it up and found a website that has a bunch of stuff about the covers including the names of the models! And yeah it's actual photos edited in!

Their names are Lisa Marie Scott and Effie Chang!

@hazelnot cool! It's good they actually have photo credits, a lot of the "model we hired on the cheap" 90s covers like this do not credit them
@ami_angelwings I started reading the comics out of morbid curiosity since then (it's terrible, racist, sexist garbage, but I can't stop, it's like a slow-mo trainwreck) and they do actually credit the models used for these alternate photo covers in every issue so at least there's that
@hazelnot https://eschergirls.ca/photo/2026/04/02/skintone-fixed-everything-else-still-plasticine they also deyellowed the Asian women when it was released on Keenspot
Skintone fixed, everything else... still plasticine

So while fixing up this old Jade Warriors post where Deathkiss is I guess borrowing Mr. Fantastic's powers while also trialling her new electrical tape exfoliation technique, I discovered that in the original Jade Warriors #3 issue published in Image Comics back in 2000 (first image), Deathkiss' skintone (and the skin tone of the other Asian women) was noticeably more yellow than when it got republished on Keenspot as a webcomic in 2015 (second image).

@ami_angelwings I'll try to remember to look at this again tomorrow cause right now the colour filter on my phone makes both of them look exactly the same lol
@ami_angelwings wow that's like, spray tan orange
