I recently finished reading "The Rainmaker" written by @gwynnion

I think out of all of the books Gwynn has written, this is the one I most want to see rendered as a movie because it would be incredibly visually trippy, in a "Is reality actually reality?" kind of way.

And I like trippy movies.

There main character, Rain, is one of the most unique characters that I've encountered in science fiction/fantasy. She's a trickster spirit who was captured by a shadowy government agency that, through some technological means, managed to split her persona into a plural system of several different people/persons in one person with limited shape shifting powers.

Ancient spirits, plurality, shape shifting, secret government agencies: I've not read anything like this before.

In the book, she's trying to escape this agency which has been forcing one of her personalities to work as a soldier/assassin.

The central personality, Rain, was formed to understand herself as human, rather than an ancient spirit, and the book details her quest to hold onto this humanity as the machinations of government agencies, the spirit realm, and her other personalities war with her for control.

There's a LOT going on in this book.

The visuals are rich and ever-shifting as Rain travels from past memories, across the terrain of the spirit realm, and across dream-scapes. A big reason why I'd like to see this book as a movie.

The story itself is a contemplation of humanness and holding onto the softer, more connective aspects of self in a world of violence and conflict.

A very unique book.

Give it a read!

@timberwraith Oh, yeah, I thought you would like it. ☺️
@gwynnion Plus, there's the whole coyote angle! 🐺😍
@gwynnion Is this the last book in the series? It seemed to leave things open for other stories.

@timberwraith No, there's potentially more since the original mission for the Old Man is still outstanding and the Man in White will be after Rain one way or another. She can't escape it.

I just wanted to leave her (and Mace) in a nice quiet place, kind of like how I ended on she and Shadow in the novella.

@timberwraith There's also hanging connections to WWW and Navigator, obviously, as I've contemplated an "Avengers assemble!" type moment for various characters in the future.

Only time, chronic fatigue, and inspiration stand in the way currently. LOL.

@gwynnion I was wondering if folks from various parts of the navigator mulitverse would cross paths again.

@timberwraith Well, Rain and Felicia are in different broken realities left over from their original world. (Which is why Laughing Girl and Grandfather appeared briefly in WWW.)

It was a notion. Rain has enough to do already. LOL.

@timberwraith And it should be a foregone conclusion by now that Rain is a Navigator, if that ever comes up. I just enjoyed having MK and Jennifer cameo.
@gwynnion Oh yes, I know Rain is a navigator. It would be interesting to see that facet of her explored more deeply.

@timberwraith "Rainmaker" wasn't originally going to be novel length but it grew in the telling and I wanted to do right by her and the story I started years ago.

I'm glad you liked the book, though. I was wondering if you finished it. ☺️

@gwynnion I remember you mentioning that you hadn't originally intended for the story to be a full length novel.

Yeah, I finished it over a week ago but I've been in a weird intense kind of depression recently and my motivation to do much of anything has been largely absent. I've been poking at myself to write about the book for a while, actually.

@timberwraith I'm sorry. I've been having really bad fatigue and other problems so I've been dragging myself. I hope you're feeling a little better, at least. πŸ’œ
@gwynnion I am better than a week ago but still dragging. I'm sorry you're dragging too. πŸ’•
