How’s your dystopia going? In Florida they’re making women attend court, by video from their hospital beds, without legal representation, whilst going through labour, because they don’t have rights when there’s a foetus present. Can you fucking imagine.

@Nickiquote Of course, she’s black. They wouldn’t pull this shit with a white woman.
@Nickiquote but but but Iran forcing women to wear hijabs in public is far worse - American Champagne Liberals
@htpcnz @Nickiquote Are the liberals in the room with us now?
@Nickiquote I have a question. WHY do people still live in florida?
@Nickiquote Well, that's certainly horrifying and uncivilized.
@Nickiquote bleak AF. What is wrong with the entire group of medical “professionals” attending the call ?!

@Nickiquote

Just popping in to say that hospitals absolutely are more likely to intervene like this with Black and brown mothers more than anyone else.

In this case, the mother (who was a doula, so she was not uninformed) had legitimate reasons for refusing a c-section: she'd had them before, the recoveries did not go well, she was afraid of complications and not being there for her other children if anything went wrong, and literally no one was listening to her.

For no advocate to be there before and during that sham of a hearing was negligent.

@Nickiquote

Also, the hospital itself says her labor was taking a long time. I'm guessing those nurses were tired and frustrated; they started that process to get that Black woman (a doula who knew what kind of birth she wanted) to knuckle under and wrap it up.

It's another form of medical racism.

@DeliaChristina @Nickiquote a doula?! How dare they refuse a multiple mother and doula, that person obviously knows what she's doing!
@Nickiquote That poor woman. That poor country. There is, apparently, no bottom to the endless depths of cruelty and awfulness.
@CiaraNi @Nickiquote This is….vile.
@marycontrary @Nickiquote 'Vile' is exactly the right word for it. One of those individual stories that stands out even in the firehose of awfulness from over there. All the people who enable this! Every disgraceful doctor, nurse, administrator involved.
@Nickiquote yeag that 1526 or which year do we have?
