turns out I'm doing "spring cleaning": getting the workplace and surrounding neat and tidy eliminating any distractions (basically only the laptop, monitor and notepad).

All the pending tasks in tasks.app - puff (pushed 6 months two review if still relevant)

I started two create dedicated profile on macOS for work but ran inti a bunch of weirdness (for starters everything created in my original home directory was still visible... WTF; then there was Firefox insisting on updating which obviously failed due of lack if rights which then resulted in Firefox hanging =,=). Not FK mention original (untweaked macOS is ao cumbersome...)

#macOS #organising #springcleaning

hmm... just noticed that I have 60G more free space. I did empty the bin earlier in the day and it took slightly longer (a progress bar flashed for split second) which felt weird at that time.

Though I checked and AnythingOfValue seems GK be still there...

<oh noez ... anyway> meme goes here xD

addendum: there is a high chance that I nuked gradle home directory as it once again download the distribution... as said before - nothing of value was lost 🤪😎

the plot thickens - I just noticed that OmniDiskSweep shows correct free space (without this 60G). I then checked the Drive information and it shows "free space 166 (60G purgable)"... what the fuck "macOS? 😵‍💫😵

I only added new user account.... description on the web vaguely states "those are files that macOS no longer seems necessary"... like... ok? but were you hoarding those 60G and hiding them from me? 😵‍💫

@wojtek They could tell you why . Though it would be “confusing”. So Apple won’t tell you.

@santi /me not likez "it's magic". I do like two know why...

sone filesystems can be funny and what-not but in case of apple it's just getting annoying... 🙄

@wojtek It’s been getting more and more annoying. I remember the early OSX days (10.3) and how I was relieved to not be forced to constantly fight hardware issues as I did with Linux at the time. Stuff worked and you still had your good share of hacks here and there.

Mac OS is clearly going the iOS way. Can’t blame Apple for various reasons and I am sure it’s even a good thing for many users but as someone who is technologically inclined this is becoming very frustrating.

@santi I mean ItJustWorks is generally great. The problem is that because Apple is pushing do much "magic" it's getting more and more obscure and things tend two... actually not work.

I tried two use Messages for a while (concept of having same archive on mobile and computer seemed great) but darn - it was constantly getting broken and some messages would display only on mobile (or computer) ...

----

As for iOSification - yeah, that's the direction and they are locking the OS more and more, which is even more annoying because Homebrew decided two follow it and basically wipe everything not blessed by Apple from the main repo (leaving only custom taps). The thing is - it's not about security or privacy. Just a power grab because there are terrible apps in stores and Apple graciously gatekeeps the store from any competition... =,=

@wojtek Yeah in addition to obfuscation the whole iCloud thing has been infuriating. So many cases where it doesn’t sync and there is no way they’ll admit it and give you a force sync button.
@santi becase it Apple la-la-land everything is just rosy and perfect ;) / :(
