Meta stole Sarah Wynn-Williams’s voice. It couldn’t stop her exposé

The author was gagged by the firm after her book, Careless People, alleged sex harassment and censorship. Its actions prove her point, says her publisher

@regehr yes Meta sucks. also why sign an NDA if you're going to break the NDA

@heathborders @regehr
Signing it was probably a mistake, but people do so because they get a termination bonus of some kind if they do sign.

If there isn't any reason like that, why would anyone sign?

But non-disparagement clauses might be in the initial employment agreement, too, so it's more complex than that.

@dougmerritt @heathborders I would hope that it is understood that the purpose of an NDA is to stop people from leaking valuable but fundamentally legal and normal corporate internal information.

and that there are lines a company could (did) cross, such that the public interest is better served by violating the NDA than it is by adhering to it.

@regehr @dougmerritt I very much agree it's in the public interest to break the NDA. If one's goal is to serve the public interest, I don't know why one would sign it to begin with
@regehr I read her book and talked about it so much my wife read it, too. It’s a wild ride—highly recommended.
