@augieray A college professor friend many years ago told me that she had a student in her college English class who was trying to argue that Beowulf was a true story because some of the characters came from the Bible (not really, but Grendel is the spawn of Cain). The student claimed to be a religious Christian. I thought it was unhinged when I heard the story, but since then I’ve realized that people hear the word “God” and their critical thinking ends.
