psa not to buy the new book TOPS by Lindsay Perryman, the person featured on the cover, Tomorrow Blake Chapman, came forward to say that they(? can't find pronouns online) never gave consent to be in the book and are featured in it five times

some of the stuff on the book has now been taken down and clicking the link from Perryman's website now goes to nowhere...

i saw some promo for the book going around and i had considered buying it so in case anyone else was in the market for a book of photographs of trans people who had top surgery, this is not the book you want
definitely a reminder that photographers need informed consent, holy crap.
Chapman had been blocked by Perryman for two years while apparently this book was in the works, and also Chapman doesn't even identify as transmasc and feels misrepresented by being included in the book and was never spoken to by Perryman about their reasons for having a mastectomy in the first place

edit that the book already came out and is for sale, wrote this while tired

the fact that a lot of stuff on it has been scrubbed is pretty telling. how many others featured never gave consent etc. but i had seen a lot of people posting things about it positively, as representation in a book like this is really needed. just not like this. so made this thread in case

looks like Perryman made a statement where they said they are still learning how to be professional in their photography practice... they have an MFA in photography from Parsons??? comments are off and there is no other update from Chapman
@forestine professional in this case would be to stop selling the book immediately? until they do that they're not professional.
@skippingmoonrocks this is definitely something you learn how to do in art school, and Parsons is one of the most prestigious schools in the world
@forestine @skippingmoonrocks among other things, “still learning how to be professional” might fly in the context of a social post, personal blog, or impromptu conversation, but does not fly when there are editors, publishers, companies with lawyers producing a printed book.
