@eunews did he hold that speech in English or is this a deepfake translation?

edit: the original seems to be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTU7JRqjdxA

Le sénateur Claude Malhuret charge à nouveau Donald Trump

@guenther @eunews the translation only appears to cover the second half. My French isn't good enough to say for sure but I don't think it's the worst translation ever.

@rozeboosje yeah, as far as I can tell, the translation is fine.

But sharing a video where the entire audio and even the lip movements have been faked to make it believable, hiding the fact that this is not the original but an interpretation – that's just dishonest.

Subtitles/voiceovers adequately serve the same purpose without pretending to be the original source.

@eunews

@eunews @guenther @rozeboosje The ‘official’ translation is actually rather sloppy. The AI one in the OP’s post is accurate.
Here is the video from the French Senates YT channel. The qoute starts about at about 4mins:

@adamvs1 @eunews @guenther I think that translation suffered a little from trying to lip sync with the original video whereas the AI translation just "audio synced" the lip movements with the translated text?

@rozeboosje @adamvs1

Anyway, I'm going to block the @eunews account now as I don't want deepfake videos in my feed.

@guenther @adamvs1 @eunews I understand your response. To @eunews I would say: NEVER just post an AI Translation like that. I'm not 100% opposed, but if you must, post it alongside the original and post the translated text so people can verify the accuracy.

In this case I had never seen or heard him before, so I had no reason to question his grasp of spoken English.
