Last Thursday at ESAD in Amiens I showed my recreation of 3D programming experiments that Evert Bloemsma did in the mid 1980s. For this purpose I used printed examples of his BASIC source code and made it work again on a Sinclair ZX Spectrum homecomputer. @esadtype #ZXSpectrum #basic #programming
Bloemsma’s BASIC application contains an editor to draw shapes with straight segments and then renders them as 3D wireframe models. As a purely speculative experiment I converted one of Bloemsma’s most recognisable designs – the lowercase s of FF Balance – and let it render in his own application. #ZXSpectrum #basic #programming #TypeDesign
@paulvanderlaan @esadtype this is very cool, and reminds me of my own attempts to recreate on the ZX Spectrum the Channel 4 logo animation of the time. I failed. I was 12-ish.
