Not that anyone asked, Artemis, the moon goddess, is the twin of Apollo, the sun god, in Greek mythology. She’s also the goddess of hunting, maidens and interestingly, childbirth. Her Roman name is Diana.

What I find interesting is that it took them over 50 years to get the name of lunar mission right #space #greekMythology

@farah lol i never thought of that but now apollo is going to bother me forever
@jiub It bothered me so much! I’m a bit of a mythology nerd, so that tracks I guess

@farah a bunch of people in leadership played Hades so it was much easier to convince them this time πŸ™ƒ

(I joke, but, erm...  )

@farah couldn't name a mission after a woman in the 60s.
@farah And if you want to know more about Artemis from a feminist perspective, have a listen to Natalie Haynes:

@farah "Mercury" made sense, even tho that wasn't where they were going; it was the fastest and farthest anyone had traveled.

"Gemini" had two people in the capsule. OK, I can follow that.

I agree -- "Apollo" bothered me for decades.
