Tonight’s carry: the weird and wonderful (?) Pentax Pz-1p (1995). Powerful and functional as befits a flagship model: ✅ Light, plasticky, and cheap feeling as befits a Pentax Z series: ✅ It’s really an odd camera. I think I love it. #CameraGear #BelieveInFilm
Major benefit: can shoot with my lovely dfa 24-70 2.8 because this camera has an aperture dial, unlike the better (?) and later mz-s. Won’t AF with the dfa, but manual with focus confirmation works well. Here it has the ridiculous Tamron 28-200 super zoom mounted and the cheap plastic is a match!
Fun fact, the pz-1p has SAFOX II auto focusing. My k1-ii has SAFOX 12!! Clearly 12 generations of improvement. 🥶 SAFOX stands for: “Sensor Ability Fortifying Optical Compensation System.” 😅😅🤷‍♂️😅😅🤦‍♂️
It has an awesome sort-of back-button focus option (which I have definitely enabled): press the lock button on the back and it focus and meters and then locks both. 👍👍 😅 Also, it doesn’t have a #Winders4Life option, but it does have a winder shaped grip (with no battery/electronics)! 😅😅
Also: takes a dumb 2cr5 battery. Which I didn’t have, but a 2cr5 is just two cr123a batts in a plastic frame. And I had a dead 2cr5, some 123s, and a soldering iron. So now I have a working but janky 2cr5, as befits this camera. ✅
@chadhill.bsky.social I had a Z-1 (PZ-1 in America) for a while, a charity shop find. I got two cheap second hand AF lenses. Looking at my images, it did really well, but I didn't get on with it; I really didn't like delving into menus. Swapped it and the lenses for a Pentax LX listed at twice what I'd paid, no cash, that was my best deal ever!
