@meejah I just had Signal kick me out of Desktop a couple days ago as well, and had to re-link. Definitely some rough bits, like how I lost my username and had to re-register it (but ran into error loops and had to change to something else *first*, then reclaim my username).
I used a somewhat simpler process for registering than you did (didn't have to set my avatar from the CLI, for instance) but otherwise pretty similar.
@meejah For getting your own safety number component from the UI, yeah, it's not straightforward.
If you open a chat with someone and then go [kebab menu] -> "Chat settings" -> "View safety number" then you can get your safety number with them. Then do it with a different person, and find the half that's in common. >_>

Some changes to the Signal protocol, basically.
