Hey, guess what 2023 me, you were right. A little disappointing, but hey, better than nothing (and makes for a good ending).
I haven't had this much fun watching a movie in a loooong while. I'm gonna try to get my thoughts in order.
I was smiling pretty much through the whole movie. Mostly because of the references to not only the Mario franchise but also other franchises (Pikmin and Starfox mostly). The inverted Pyramid and Town from Super Mario Odyssey, Birdo and the Frog guy (forgive my lack of knowledge) from Super Mario Bros. 2 USA, the Boss fight with Bowser and Bowser Junior where it switched back and forth between 3D and Super Mario Bros. 1, and so many more.
Another reason I was smiling was because of the music. Man, the music. I think this is going to be the first movie score I'll unironically listen to some time. The little leitmotifs they were using in the score was something I liked in the 1st movie, but I LOOOVE the references in this one. They were really subtle sometimes, I really like that.
Next, the post credits scenes (yes, there were two, thankfully I always research that when a movie ends). The first one I believe is just a little "yes, let's a do a funny reference to the 1st movie". The second one has a lot more implications IMO.
Princess Daisy afaik has been the epitome of "just being there" since I believe the Super Mario Land days. We also haven't seen Wario and Waluigi yet, and seeing tht Wario was the antagonist in the Super Mario Land games, maybe he's going to be the antagonist in the 3rd movie, since Bowser and Bowser Jr. are gonna be trapped for a long long time. Or maybe there won't be a third movie, just because we saw Princess Daisy doesn't mean that there's gonna be a 3rd movie. But then also, they teased the 2nd movie with just the Yoshi egg. We'll see.

On the topic of Peach: the sequel (if there will me one) absolutely has to go into her backstory. Now, the only thing we know is that she doesn't remember anything. What if it also plays more in the "real" universe? Maybe they'll go on a detective hunt or smth. Also, how old is she? And how old are the Mario Brothers? And why are they called the Mario Brothers? Is their last name Mario? Probably not... This is turning into a dump for my thoughts, but hey, that's that this acc is for anyways.
