Eating lamb at #Easter is a traditional but ironic way to celebrate a holiday that’s all about new life. Because how do we humans celebrate new life? By eating it.

Dating back to ancient times, the egg symbolised new life and fertility. Like with lambs, it’s ironic that the consumption of eggs actually prevents new life from being born.

In natural conditions, a mother would take great care of her unhatched eggs, using a special call to communicate with the chicks inside

@Geri
Might I suggest quail eggs then; quail will lay unfertilised eggs, which though small are delicious & nutritious.
@HighlandLawyer no, because you are still capturing an animal for no good reason xx

@Geri
With respect, not trying to persuade you to change your mind, I disagree. They are probably as free as any of us. They aren't captured from the wild, & any "restrictions" on them are to ensure their comfortable, healthy, long lives. I believe it is a mutually beneficial arrangement.

(Factory farming on the other hand is an abomination)

@HighlandLawyer surely that's just imprisonment. It doesn't not matter if they have better life in captivity, they are still imprisoned. I have similar feelings about zoos - but let's not move off the point xx

Would you like to live 89 years in prison
Or
70 years in freedom?

@Geri
89 years on a large estate with a mansion & everything I desire supplied on condition I never leave or 70 years living rough, homeless, surviving hand to mouth while fending off enemies? Hmm, tough choice.

Though a false dichotomy anyway. How many humans can, in practical terms, just up sticks & do whatever they want where-ever they want? And how many free-range well cared for poultry ever realise they are confined in any way in the homes they were born into?

@HighlandLawyer that's the point. The anthropomorphic understanding of the bird assumes a primary dominance over them. Who are we, as man, to say, to another species, this is what we think is best for you? We should just totally leave them alone.

It's akin to a man suggesting what hooks I should fasten my bra on
