blogging to arxiv is a massive flex https://arxiv.org/pdf/2602.10181
via an excellent essay making the rounds on bluesky https://ergosphere.blog/posts/the-machines-are-fine/
The machines are fine. I'm worried about us.

On AI agents, grunt work, and the part of science that isn't replaceable.

@wingo I don't really see it as excellent. making an argument that the outcomes are bad... but the causes of them, oh, the causes can't be bad because it would be too hard and unfair to get rid of them borders on intellectual dishonesty
@wingo @indutny Damn this is good, so many quotables. Bookmarking this, thanks.
"I claim that (essentially) none of
us, individually, does astrophysics because we want to learn the specific answer to the
astrophysics question we are asking. [...] If all we really wanted was to know how the Universe worked, we would start a hedge fund, and use
the proceeds to pay an astrophysics institute, filled with people who wanted to do astrophysics rather than find out the answers."
@wingo just physicists doing phycisist things
@wingo It's apparently allowed if you say "white paper" instead of "blog post". (White [paper] privilege?)
@wingo I've read it now, and I have to say it is a pretty damn good blog post!
