These laws are absurd, forcing 3D printer manufacturers to literally implement the plainer of @pluralistic ’s #unauthorizedbread

Manufacturers have plenty of incentive to enshittify their products without states forcing them to.

Print Blocking Won't Work - Permission to Print Part 2

Legislators across the U.S. are proposing laws to force “blueprint blockers” on 3D printers sold in their states. This mandated censorware is doomed to fail for its intended purpose, but will still manage to hurt the professional and hobbyist communities relying on these tools.

Only in America can printer laws be stricter than actual gun laws.

@pluralistic

@lazysupper @ildiavolorosso @pluralistic the people pushing those laws are the same people trying to ban guns. There is even a bill in New York state to require a background check before someone can buy a 3d printer. It won't pass but they'll waste time proposing it.

One of the reasons we have problems with people getting hurt with firearms in this country is we have politicians who are more interested in political theater than actually dealing with issues.

@allpoints
I reckon they'll have an easier time passing printer laws than gun laws.

@lazysupper @allpoints @pluralistic If 3D printing unauthorized bread is outlaws, then only outlaws will be able to print unauthorized bread :)
