🚂 Aren't trains the best? April is #PoetryMonth! We discovered this 1935 ode to the IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit) in an issue of the “Interborough Bulletin,” an employee magazine published by the IRT which ran several subway and elevated lines in #NYC at the time.
The poet, Marcella Corbert, named her poem “Subway Train (With Apologies to Joyce Kilmer).” Corbert based this poem on Kilmer’s famous 1913 poem “Trees.” “Subway Train” is read here by the Museum's Content & Research Manager, Polly Desjarlais. Have you ever written transit poetry?
