Unfortunately by the time this poll ends it'll be too late.

Why didn't you remind me yesterday?

For any forriners - until 2018 pubs in Ireland would be closed on good Friday and the game was to find a pub opening illegally to get locked as a sign of rebellion against the man. I too was that soldier but can't be arsed going out today.

Rugby quarter finals were known to occur in Limerick on a good Friday and there would be a collective loosing of the minds west of the Shannon cause rugby fans couldn't buy a beer. To the extent that laws were amended.

@janwwbosch IIRC the other way around the ban was to go on a train journey - for some reason trains were exempt from the no alcohol rule on Good Friday and there were stories of people taking a return trip from Galway to Dublin just so they could have a drink.

@ccferrie correct. Blood donation was another route. I think there were seven on the list.

Was staying as a guest in a hotel also an option?

@ccferrie another weird outcome of the licensing laws was bona fide pubs a certain distance outside an urban area where pubs could serve later as given the distance drinkers were considered bona fide travellers.
@janwwbosch @ccferrie
There was also an airport drinking game: show up early with no luggage and get airside for the cheapest ryanair flight (booked months earlier, when it was dirt cheap). Start drinking in the airport bar. Don't go to your gate.
Bonus: do a shot every time your name is called over the PA.
