@datum Zack Polanski’s account is bridged. It’s better than having no presence on the fediverse but only just.

Bridged accounts offer no interaction. I follow some for information but I will not boost them.

@Broadfork @datum
Same here. I'm somewhat ambivalent about it. It's a presence but more for reach for interaction, which is antithetical to my fedi use. I sometimes block such accounts because they are injecting X content into Mastodon but can't be bothered actually being present.

@MostlyTato I mostly do the same. I don’t like seeing x content in the fediverse. Unfortunately the GPEW only have a small presence on mastodon so I follow this account for info.

Sadly, they probably equate lack of boosts on these bridged accounts as lack of support for setting up an actual presence on mastodon.

I would like to see a Green Party EW instance on mastodon.

Molly Scott Cato, Green MEP, was here briefly back when people asked for political toots to be behind a CW.

@Broadfork @datum
For me that's the entire problem: attitude.
Seeing not getting support as a reason not to engage, when you can't be bothered engaging in the first place to get support, is an attitude problem.
Just because I agree with many of their policies doesn't mean they automatically deserve my vote.
The saying 'be the change you want to see' very much applies to Fedi Vs X and Facebook.
@MostlyTato @Broadfork @datum
FWIW @ZackPolanski has had an account left dormant since one of the bigger eXodus times

@rooftopjaxx Yes, he migrated over and gave the platform a go a few years back.

It’s encouraging to see from his toots back then that he has stayed true to his principles. Especially when so many politicians from other parties u-turn from one week to the next.
@MostlyTato @datum @ZackPolanski

@MostlyTato That was purely my own reasoning. I have nothing to suggest it is actually the case.

I am a supporter of and have voted for Green Party candidates in many elections but I have never joined any political party and I don’t know if that will change.

Each election I weigh up who will best represent me.

I am not drawn to party politics at all. I do like that Green Party MP’s are not whipped. Every MP in parliament should be free to vote as their conscience dictates.

@datum

@Broadfork @datum
Same here, I have zero partisan affiliation and I judge on policy alone. Unfortunately, not just the policies of who I might vote for, but the policies of who I will vote against.

@Broadfork @MostlyTato

Every MP in parliament should be free to vote as their conscience dictates.

Absolutely this!

@datum @Broadfork
It should really go without saying, the fact that it has to be said is pretty appalling.
@MostlyTato @datum This is why I don’t have much time for party politics. An MP’s voting record should be their CV for re-election.

@MostlyTato @Broadfork

but can't be bothered actually being present.

this is a tough one. Do I want the better politicians to spend time chatting on Fedi when their energies could, practically, have higher impact elsewhere?

And most politicians, I believe, don't really handle their own social media, they have a social media manager. (Exceptions include the amazing Senator Simons in Alberta.) So "fedi-first or a mirrored copy from another platform" is kind of moot in those cases.

Town halls are important but if that's all one does, nothing else gets done.

Anyways I'm not trying to make a case or start an argument, just trying to share some thoughts.

@datum @Broadfork
I don't disagree with any of that. I think a realistic approach is valuable... to accept a necessary status quo only as temporary whilst moving towards something better.
The Greens have a lot of experience being in an electoral minority, I'd think they might value the importance in ideology behind Fedi compared to business as usual and at least have some engagement rather than just bridging.
Doesn't take much.

@MostlyTato @datum I think everyone in public office should have their own personal social media accounts. The content of which only they are responsible.

I’m fine with party/MP’s having a social media presence that’s run by media teams provided this is clear to the audience.

The Green Party EW should have a regional presence on mastodon. I know the longer they go with bridged accounts, the greater chance I will drift away from hearing their messaging.

They have more to gain by doing it.

@Broadfork

Bridged accounts offer no interaction. I follow some for information but I will not boost them.

I think that's a really reasonable position. Useful info sources but while not being actually in the community, not pushing them on the community.
