i hate LLMs as much as the next dude, but can't say i enjoy the term "clanker". at best it's kinda cringe, at worst it draws weird parallels to actual slurs they wouldn't be caught saying.

i'm all for calling it out for the ethical mess and piece of shit it is, but do we need to get so weird with it?

@kim I don’t like clanker either. I like “slop machine,” keeps the slop, link to slot machine gambling. I feel like that’s pretty spot-on.

@ohno yeah that definitely draws less weird parallels. also it's a phrase that describes what it does, as opposed to trying to shoehorn in a word that only tangentially relates to it.

@kim right?? Especially when the argument form being most successfully weaponized by the pro-LLM crowd is broad generalization. We need to be super nuanced with the contra arguments to disallow partially correct rebuttals. Name-calling ain't it.
