Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is set to give the green light to the Jackdaw gas field, 150 miles off the coast of Aberdeen, The Times reports.

It comes as the SNP appeared to signal a shift in their position on North Sea production, with First Minister John Swinney saying the conflict in the Middle East and questions of energy security "changes the balance of the arguments".

@JackTheCat Spineless and compliant with the fossil fuel lot - Swinney, Starmer and Milliband should be ashamed of themselves, but they are not. Wind, solar & water power: insulation and heat pumps is where everyone should be concentrating their efforts and finances to deal with the fall-out from the UK’s part in this illegal war. And #IndependentScotlandBackInEU so England cannot continue to depend on the Scottish teat for free.

@JackTheCat absolutely stupid decision by wastemonster. The move to green energy for climate reasons is well documented and understood.

However the tangerine tyrant lobbing missiles at Iran has really shown that self sufficiency on green power is critical for national security and the economy.

Once again Scotland being held back by the UK Government, they cannot keep the union and continue making decisions that are against Scotlands interests

We need independence

@JackTheCat The only reason to do this is that the US-Israel war in the Middle East is going to continue for over a decade.

Or that renewables aren't cheaper and quicker to implement.

So, which is it? πŸ€”

@distinctdipole @JackTheCat Do I detect the work of interests in vests?
@JackTheCat There is only one green party. #VoteGreen
