The article about helium reminds me of a post I just saw yesterday about a locally owned, small town grocery store that said they're going to stop selling helium balloons and are selling out their stock of balloons at discount. I wonder if it's related? Certainly people are still having birthdays and other celebrations at the same rate? Could an increase in the price of helium be why?
