It’s a product of the social web, also known as the fediverse. The idea is to make it easy for anyone to curate the content they want, wherever it comes from.

@taylorlorenz Let’s not and say you did. Now I have to block you cuz the last thing I want is to have my info served to “an open web”for the surveillance platforms to scrape and hand over to bad actors.
