there is a thread on the krita-artists forum asking about an llm policy, i think it would be good that we make our voices heard that there is no place for genai anywhere, and especially not in a program for artists

make sure to stay polite and civil!

krita-artists.org/t/policy-on-llm-code/178248

as this is a very important issue, tell like-minded people about it

edit: keep in mind that halla is only one maintainer, and there are multiple. some are more positive on genai, sadly. monitor the situation, share your views and stay vigilant
Policy on LLM code?

Speaking as the Krita maintainer, I don’t want us to accept any LLM-generated code into Krita. Some may say, as long as the contributor understands the code it’s fine, but that’s a fallacy. No programmer really fully understands the code they are working with (otherwise bugzilla would be empty); but with LLM-generated code they haven’t even put any thought into it. That code will be unmaintainable. And that’s even completely apart from the fact that using LLM’s to generate code lowers your co...

@lumi why does it use discourse
(tldr: it's hyperslop)
@thing i didn't even know discourse was slopware

if krita at least bans this fashtech i will be happy

I am pretty sure that it's pretty hard to migrate forum software, sadly. Not "practically impossible", like with discord, but still I don't think there are full-featured alternatives with quick migration methods, just some ways to script old forum posts into new one while locking threads (what Godot did some time ago).
@tiredbun @thing my views on it is that at least it's not discord. but yeah it is not ideal

it is something that should be worked on, but we all only have limited time and energy, so let's pick our battles

the most important thing is to band together and make other people aware of the harms of genai
@lumi Thanks for calling attention to that post -- I had missed it. I have replied in the thread.
@halla thanks

i have been thinking of contributing to krita for a while, and if a policy banning genai is adopted, i would be much more likely to do so :3

am currently just using it for art and it's great. would be sad if genai was accepted in any capacity

Just read the reply of the Krita maintainer:

"Speaking as the Krita maintainer, I don’t want us to accept any LLM-generated code into Krita. [...]"

(Full post here: https://krita-artists.org/t/policy-on-llm-code/178248/12)

I absolutely love this definitive and crystal clear stance they take! 🧡

Krita FTW!

@duke_of_germany this is only one maintainer, however. there are multiple, and opinions are more divided than i'd like (as far as i know, all of this knowledge is second-hand)

Good to know! Then I dial down my enthusiasm a bit, but stay carefully optimistic!

🤞😊
