First machine from our Big Haul on the healing bench! This us an Edwards E306A thermal evaporator. We are its third but really second owner - the previous folks just kept it in a corner gathering dust.

Its cooling circuit is leaking, it's missing a pump exhaust filter/conduit, and its film thickness monitor seems to have been violently ripped out at some point.

But the roughing pump runs and it seems to be pulling _a_ vacuum... So there's potential!

Time for a FAFO Special: a 3D printed ISO KF to toilet roll adapter... also known as a DIY oil mist filter. At least temporarily. We should probably invest in some real filters that aren't a possible fire hazard.

(toilet roll filter idea by @spirit532, 'engineered' at FAFO, soon coming to a Printables near you..?)

(yes, we take out the inner cardboard)

@fafo @spirit532 We await with interest, how you intend to use the roll afterwards.
@penguin42 @fafo @spirit532 Wring out the oil and make some fries in it! After all it's filtered.
@q3k @fafo @spirit532 Oh right, then can put the roll back where they found it.

@penguin42
No need to buy this expensive damp wipes at the store …

@q3k @fafo @spirit532

@fafo A non-temporary option is to print a holder for 0.5µm polyester water sedimentation filter cartridges. One in the middle, fill the outside gap with activated charcoal and it works far better than even a lot of $200+ OEM units.
@fafo and the first Gardena parts are already connected. well done! :)

@fafo Kept in a corner, gathering dust? Hah, that's...

Oh. Yeah, it's exactly what mine has been doing for nearly two years now. Oh well, I'm sure I'LL GET AROUND TO IT eventually!

@StripeyYena Oh don't worry, we also have these two gathering dust, ie. waiting for utilities hookup and general love. We should exchange notes!

Left is a sputter system, right is a combined e-beam/thermal system.

(Maybe we should make a bringup vlog for them?)
