>Artemis II astronauts contact mission control to complain about Outlook

We have truly peaked as a species when even around the Moon, the common heritage of all humankind, Microsoft still causes problems

At hundreds of kilometres above the Earth, all our problems, like war, poverty, and hunger… Must look so small.

Except for the fact that there is Outlook (classic) and Outlook (new) and neither of them work. That problem is still close by.

It is honestly low-key cool that mission control can remote desktop into a computer that is orbiting the Moon
@[email protected] wait are they already at the moon? i thought that was gonna take a few days
@mir oh I was just thinking ahead

@mir
@yassie_j yeah, they are still headed out, they just finished their loop around the earth.

Artemis II Trajectory Viewer

@yassie_j they are RDP’n or VNC’n into the ship’s systems?

In leo the delay would be noticiable…at the moon lethal

@yassie_j
Yes, cool, but even more cool IMNSHO is that I'm pretty sure we were able to do the yesteryear equivalent of this with voyager and modify the live code while it was still running…

Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the USS Enterprise.

Except you cannot watch them because the SharePoint hosting them doesn’t work.

@yassie_j I’m picturing first contact. “In the mic on? Can you hear me? Sorry. I was muted.”
@[email protected] im sure our problems wouldve looked plenty small if we hadnt BROUGHT THEM WITH US
@yassie_j I don't know how out of all the depressing things I've had to reckon with today, this is the most depressing

Maybe it's a straw on camel's back thing, maybe it's just Microsoft being inescapable
@yassie_j i hope they didn't need to use OneDrive
@yassie_j i personally find it horrifying that you can go to space and microsoft will be there
@[email protected] "Houston, we have a Microsoft problem."
@[email protected] 🎵 Fly me to the moon, and let me AutoPlay among the stars. Let me see what a blue screen is like, on Jupiter and Mars. 🎵
@yassie_j >fuck off into space
>still have to suffer microsoft software
@lanodan the furthest away you could be from any other person and Microsoft still comes for you
@yassie_j I don't know if I would try to fly to the moon on anything running Outlook
@yassie_j remembering that the Saturn V and Apollo vehicles, and the space shuttle, were designed and developed before Microsoft and Google took over…now has me very worried for the well-being and safety of the astronauts 😅
@yassie_j my hot take is that when you're not on planet earth, it's ok to not check your email
@yassie_j You would think NASA of all people would know better than to open Windows in space
@[email protected] When I saw a microsoft product as a kneeboard I knew it would cause issues.

Also the lock code was 93930, because for some reason it needed one?
@yassie_j why are they still using Microsoft? I thought they'd have learnt their lesson when whey were forced to switch the International Space Station over to Debian  🛰️
@yassie_j @IrrationalMethod I’m sure they’ll blame DNS but we won’t believe them
@yassie_j are artemis II astronauts communicating via IP back to earth???
@yassie_j I can hear Margaret #Hammond scream in agony amidst this #Enshittification!
