#Toronto: instead of using Uber or Lyft (which are a bad deal for drivers), you can use the TaxiClub app to call a local taxi.

An actual taxi! The app displays estimated price, expected time, and where your taxi is in real time (useful, when they get lost in a messy numbering zone!)

I asked a driver, who'd worked for Uber and then moved to a taxi, and he said the latter was a much better deal for him. Sold.

@deborahh I've never understood why some association of taxi companies doesn't form a consortium for a app to call a taxi. It sounds like maybe they have in Canada.

@gdinwiddie @deborahh In Berlin there's an official app from the taxi association. You can just order one for now where you are. Or you pre-order one for later. With a fixed guaranteed price that normally even is a bit below the Uber price.

It's my fault when I'm in Berlin.

@sashag @deborahh
In the USA, the big advantage that Uber and Lyft have is using one app no matter where you travel. When I was a traveling consultant, that was a big win if I didn't rent a car.

@gdinwiddie @deborahh Yes, I agree. How many apps should I install?

I do the same when I'm in other cities or countries.

When I was still freelancer and traveling, there was no Uber

@sashag @gdinwiddie 🤦‍♀️ yes, of course. One app per city. A pain.

Still, I refuse to use Uber and Lyft, so I download the apps!

@gdinwiddie exactly. Depending where I am in the city, I may get a different cab company in reply.
