Thing I liked best about the Supergirl trailer?
That the final card didn't just include "directed by Craig Gillespie" but also "written by Ana Nogueira".
The reason I don't think the DCU is going to have a "woman problem" the way that Marvel has is not just that they're already going in with a female-led movie. It's that I see female creatives getting recognized.
One of my takeaways from the Peacemaker podcast was that I really felt that James Gunn talks about the female actors he works with the exact same way he talks about the men with the same respect & the same focus on their skill & craft, etc.
It's hard to explain because I can't point to any one specific thing; that was just my overall impression, & it makes me hopeful.
Actually whether the writer is a woman or not, I still would think it's really cool that the writer's name made it into the trailer, even though it's not a household name.
That's what I really think is happening with James Gunn's DCU: I see a deliberate effort to make sure creatives get credit for their work. I respect that so much.
I saw someone basically saying that James Gunn should give Larry Ellison a piece of his mind (now that Ellison has bought Warner Bros), & I'm really not into that.
Would I like Gunn to grandstand & get fired "on principle"? No, I would like him to keep making mainstream films & TV that feature representation for women, POC, queer people, etc. That's what I want from Gunn. That's how he can be a fucking "ally". I don't know what good yelling at a billionaire would do.
