i don't get why more normies don't use fedi,,,, it solves a lot of issues with "social media" and actually provides good social networking and spaces to share stuff about our lives
@sparklepanic this is so funny, was about to post abt how fedi has really helped improve my habits with social media

@sparklepanic I know loads of people who still use Twitter. Queer people.

Everyone they know and regular interact with is on their platform.
Moving to a new one basically means starting from scratch. Even if you find 1-2 people you know from somewhere else.

Additionally, fedi people kinda fought against normies. If you want to say it like that.
A lot of people just want a working platform, while a lot of fedi is.. very focused on fedi? (Sorry for lack of a better description)
People blocking .social (because it's big and therefore evil), instances defederating each other over some drama. Or just instances closing in general.

None of this is really attractive to people who just want a platform they can use.

Sure, you could just use .social and the bubble around it.
But people will regularly remind you that what you did the wrong thing.

@alyx yeah, not saying there isn't problems with the culture here, and im hoping we can all work on changing that.

Like, i disagree with ppl who defederate from .social or block the instance or shame the person bc it's antithetical to getting newer folks onboarded

that being said, i think folks should have better education about picking instances that are not .social but still Mastodon as i believe it is the most straight-forward
