Why is Zionism connected to everything?

Before I had my pay-whatever-you-can law practice, I was a legal director at a free legal aid clinic. The part of the job I loved was the free lawyering for people. The part of the job I hated was the fundraising. Naturally, I had to do that part a lot.

One day, I was meeting with the social justice committee of a wealthy synagogue in a nearby suburb. The goal was to procure some money from the congregation's charity fund for the clinic. The social justice committee had an assistant Rabbi and many wealthy donors who listened to my presentation.
Several then started peppering me with questions about whether eviction defense was really necessary. One asked me why my clinic didn't just buy land and build them houses. Another asked me whether we were rewarding laziness and lack of personal responsibilities with a free lawyer.

Still another wondered if I was shielding tenants from learning valuable life lessons. A fourth was concerned it was unfair to not also give free representation to landlords.

I tried explaining the racial and class disparities inherent to eviction law specifically and property law more generally,

closing with the statistics tying evictions to generational poverty and the prison industrial complex. I recommended they read "The Color of Law" by Richard Rothstein. I invited them to come to court with me and see conditions there for themselves.

One of my previous interlocutors broke in.

"This sounds just like what Palestinians say," they said. "No personal responsibility for their own lives. It's always Israel's fault and asking for money. Just like you're doing here."

There was an uncomfortable pause, and I again began talking about institutional racism before I was stopped.

@theleftistlawyer "This sounds just like what Palestinians say" so close to getting the point

And yet so far

@ProcessParsnip @theleftistlawyer

He's saying it from the viewpoint of a fascist Israeli soldier shooting a kid in the brain

@ProcessParsnip @theleftistlawyer

The Israeli government and its supporters see Palestinians as a waste of oxygen, as subhumans, as superfluous biomatter that exist with the sole purpose of blocking the master race from taking their birthright.

@ProcessParsnip @theleftistlawyer

No amount of appeals to systemic injustice will prevent these people from being fascist monsterous losers who kill babies for fun

@ProcessParsnip @theleftistlawyer

They, much like ICE, and the US Department of War, and the paramilitaties in Sudan and Myanmar, take glee in the unilateral execution of other human beings.
