Last year I bought a $1 tradescantia cutting off Etsy. The seller had an issue and didn't send it for a while, so as apology they sent me an entire plant.

I now have a tradescantia SITUATION.

In addition to the main plant (made up of about 10 individual plants), which I repotted and trained up a trellis last night, I have:

6 plants growing in water
and A DOZEN cuttings on the counter, which either broke off during the repotting or were at bad angles for the trellis.

This is only one type of tradescantia. I have three.

Another was a $1-2 cutting which is growing in water and is nearing two feet long, and another was a freebie cutting when I bought another plant and now consists of three foot-long sections and another about half that size that I cut due to a wonky growing angle and lives in water.

@ldottxt
If you give those babies a shady spot and enough water they go wild!!
@ldottxt damn. I love them but I’ve killed every one I’ve brought home so I’ve stopped bringing them home. 😅
@RavynWitch I've been growing them in water in former yogurt jars. Top up the water occasionally, swap it out entirely every month or two, and they grow like mad. I've killed several in dirt but the water ones are hardy. One I moved to dirt last night had roots over three feet long.
@ldottxt huh! Maybe that’s my problem.
