Thursday 2 April 1964

A world-wide shipping war loomed last night as an American ultimatum to British shipowners was firmly rejected. The Americans want shipowners to cancel their contracts with British firms sending goods to America. This action is seen as the Americans trying to strangle successful British exports.

The Lord’s Day Observance Society believes that Britain is in a bad way, and they blame the Beatles, the Duke of Edinburgh, Harold Macmillan, Spurs’ supporters, bingo halls and bowling alleys. For they have all used Sundays for work, sport and entertainment. The Society believes that this misuse of Sundays is a distressing condition.
@HannahHowe Always blame Spurs supporters, 1964 or today!
@BillSaysThis They've done a lot, but I think blaming them for moral decay isn't one of them. 😉 @HannahHowe
@BackFromTheDud @HannahHowe Have you been to their old stadium?? 🤣
@BillSaysThis Yes, I attended a wedding there in the 1990s @HannahHowe
