@adub I would say, if you get asked for financial information, it's *definitely* a scam.
@redshiftdrift what exactly does your minor modification of my original statement contribute here? 🤨

@adub The simplest word "definitely" is already 100% affirmative and stronger than "most definitely".

I am aware that this may not be the usual meaning for everyone, but my #2e mind is anything but usual...🙃

@redshiftdrift i happen to be a university professor and native english speaker and don't need grammar lessons thanks all the same. how about introducing yourself in a more interesting way? i am open to finding new online friends even if my time on this site is a bit sporadic in a busy time of year like now

@adub @redshiftdrift Genuine question, Could it be a difference of appreciation for the word because you (both) didn’t learn the same English? (I teach French as a second language in Canada being from France, so I am aware of possible misunderstanding because of words 😊).

(English is my second language and I am also autistic).

@redshiftdrift @adelinej that could be. i only studied French for three years in high school.

@adub @adelinej
My answer was an observation that language is very personal and inaccurate. I explained that the simplest wording is my preferred way of speaking - my way of using language is a window to my mind. But you incorrectly interpreted my descriptive comment as a prescriptive statement.

Québecois is my first language, I learned English in my late teens, and some German in my late twenties. As @adelinej points out, French in Canada and in France are different. The same can be said for the English spoken by people from Japan, Greece, India, and Australia. I'd like to learn more about Algonquin, Māori, etc. but I don't have friends who speak these languages.

Differences between languages go beyond grammar, they highlight a different personal thought process.

This is very interesting in itself but can lead to misunderstandings - or funny situations🤣 And this is how a conversation should be taken,[descriptive comment] with a sense of humour and interest in the other person. For example, I find it interesting that a friend of mine never spells her first name with a capital "j", and you also write "i"...

But I offended you @adub - twice. It seems our personalities may be incompatible. I am not on universodon.com to find new friends, but instead to share ideas. If I can't do so without offending you, we should end this exchange.[prescriptive statement]

I think we agree on one thing: "If you get asked for financial information, it's a scam." Let's leave it at that.[prescriptive statement]

Merci @adelinej 😉

@redshiftdrift You are welcome! For me it is difficult to communicate either in English or in French online because of the written communication in addition to cultural differences. But I find it so much easier when I exchange with ND people.

And this conversation is a perfect example than even between ourselves we can struggling to understand each other. 🤣 (nothing new here for me)
