I always thought the point of programmer socks was taking "the tech sector has given up on office dress codes" to an especially feminine logical extreme. Being more creative than jeans and T-shirt, because you can. Daring your coworkers to judge you for your choice of clothing by actually wearing what you wish you could get away with wearing.

@Newpa_Hasai @anomalocarididae I don't think there's actually a masculine equivalent, because masculine clothes are default. But if we're going to define a new masc programmer style, "fancy" seems counterproductive, and maybe we should lean more toward "subtly kinky."
@Newpa_Hasai @anomalocarididae and to bring this back around to cargo pants, what I've always wished I could get away with wearing is "so many pockets full of useful stuff that you can't tell what shape my hips are"
