Some good news - After nearly 12 years vacant, 61 Swiftbrook Drive is finally back on the market. It's up for auction, so we hope that soon this will become a much-needed home for a family.

We've been campaigning on this property for years, and last year brought a motion to SDCC to request that the Council initiate CPO proceedings on it. This meant that the Council had to contact Pepper, the vulture fund in control of the property, to pressure them to either USE or LOSE the property.

There are homes like this all over Dublin - and the fact that these properties are allowed to lie vacant and derelict amidst the worst housing crisis this country has ever seen is unacceptable. Recent figures state that 17,300 people are homeless in Ireland, including 5,457 children. This crisis could be solved by the Council taking derelict and vacant properties back into its possession, and investing in the refurbishment and maintenance of these properties, to supply them as housing stock.
