US courts recently affirmed that only humans can hold copyright; generated works cannot be owned or licensed by anyone, even if a human directs or makes changes to the work. I assume the current version of Claude source code is heavily generated by previous versions of Claude. Indeed, it would be preposterous to assume otherwise. If correct, then Claude source code became public domain as soon as it was leaked, and it cannot be copyrighted.
