I'm increasingly struck by parallels between Lovecraftian "Eldritch" themes and fossil fuels:
- Something huge and monstrous has been living deep in the Earth;
- It's been there for geological time scales ("deep time")
- But now it's rising to the surface
- It intends to consume humanity
- We as individuals are utterly powerless to stop it
(The Lord of the Rings quote, "The dwarves dug too greedily and too deep," also touches these themes. Shiver!)
I've been kicking around ideas for a satirical bumper sticker for a petroleum company, "Eldritch Oil", whose logo features a stylized Cthullu and an oil drum or derrick, somehow. And a really cheeky slogan.
Ideas?
We've got to take away fossil fuel companies' social license to operate.
