Got up two and a half hours ago.

Got the dog out for a walk.

Been home with him on my lap since then — our 40-pound lapdog — giving him all the rubs and scritching and compliments he’ll take.

We’re his third home and we know he was abused in at least one of the previous two.

I haven’t had anything to eat or drink yet, but he’s staying on my lap until he wants to leave because he needs to learn he’s unconditionally loved and the best boy.

@reay You are the best! They, like people, can learn to trust again, but it takes the commitment of good souls.

I don't know much about the background of my rescue dogs, but I do know that Miles had been returned twice for being too timid and getting bullied by other dogs. I can only imagine how that made him feel. His third home is permanent. We made sure of it.

@kimlockhartga Aw, thanks. Really I’m just offering up the care and love people should offer their pets. I’m a peaceful guy, but knowing people abuse animals — I’m picturing this guy as a puppy, which is heart-melting — is infuriating.
