Does anyone here, by pure coincidence, have an advised outdoor antenna for 169.65 Hz?

Since this is mostly just for fun, price is a factor; I’m replacing a simple inside telescoping that came with the RTL-SDR to make everything a bit nicer.

#Radio #sdr

I can always browse the well known budget places, but if anyone has personal experience, that is worth 1000 unverifiable reviews.
@evi rtl-sdr at 170hz? Sensitivity is not existant below 2mhz... for an antenna just take a looong piece of wire. The longef, the better.
@Kamikazepinguin oh yeah, it’s not that reception is terrible, it’s that a half broken dipole randomly thrown into a room is a total eyesore. :3
@evi true, i know the direct view onto a dangle-tenna is disturbing.... had one on my wall for ages xD

@evi For receive-only, you can probably just get away with a long wire. Exact length isn't super important unless you're transmitting, though you might still get better performance at that frequency by making the wire the correct length (typically ¼ or ½ of the wavelength).

But I think the most important factor for you will be antenna placement. Keep it away from metal frames or objects that might block or reflect the signal, and have it in the correct orientation for the polarisation of your signal (usually vertical; if horizontal, you'll probably also need to orient the antenna correctly). And typically, the higher up the antenna is, the better.

@TerrorBite oh yeah, the orientation is dead easy; the signal in question is strong enough that it comes through on the cheap indoor antenna (vertical) already; I just want to get rid of the mess and at leats make it LOOK tidy and professional. :)

Kind of the reason I’m not super fond if the “just a wire” idea, unless I stick the wire in a tube I suppose.
