The problem with Bluesky and it's ecosystem was there from the very beginning. The instincts of those who funded it and then invest in it.

In Tech we've just got better at the sweet talk as we shaft our ecosystem.

I see echoes of Bill Gates open letter bitching about piracy and doing his level best to undermine our software freedom.

I feel for the ecosystem of developers feeling betrayed by Blueskys AI feed tool. They should.

The Marshmallow Test - Bluesky signals it's willing to eat its young

At AtmosphereConf, Bluesky celebrated its community, then signaled it's willing to eat them alive. No context. No acknowledgment. I was in the room.

We have got to ensure our ecosystems get clear of VC funding.

But developers and folks who help developers need to eat.

Otherwise we just end up on this merry go round again and again.

I want to help build systems that last.

@onepict @_elena I understand the empathy, but I'm also getting sick of being the Cassandra of the industry.

@ainmosni @_elena I've been in and around FOSS since 2007. Especially with folks who were using Samba and trying to find alternatives to Microsoft Exchange and Outlook. I don't like having a really good idea of what's going to happen to folks who keep betting on Microsoft.

I'm so tired of it. Like I'm the last person to be sympathetic to bluesky. But I do understand the excitement.

Consent and the Fediverse Part Deux: The Opt-out two shuffle

@onepict @_elena Yep... I've been around since FOSS since the late 90s (I think, memory is weird, but I was remember running FreeBSD on Y2K), and I used to love tech, and in many ways I still do. But the industry has made me hate just as many aspects as well. It used to be that we all tried to make life better, some for moral reasons, others for profit reasons, it wasn't perfect, but there was at least good faith progress.

Now the tech industry leaders are the ones in power and are acting like it, add to that a desperation for a "next big thing" and we're in this shitty situation. But somehow, so many professional developers are blind to it, and keep acting all surprised when something VC-funded turns out to be enshittified or just anti-human again.

Anyway, sorry for the "ranting to the choir"...

@ainmosni @_elena It's okay, It's good to know there's other like us out there.
