four seeds in the seedling nursery now.
local supermarket didn't have veggie soil but compost bags, and we still had some coir blocks, so i made a 1:1 mix for the seedling nursery. let's see how it goes.
for the 10L buckets they will move to later, i ordered some perlite since i read this improves the mix.
also noticed the bucket with drilled aeration holes had the best outcome and was rooted out, so i'm going to aerate the others as well.
Phew. Took two hours to set up the indoor "cold frame" for our four seedlings but it's done. They're waiting here until outdoor night temperature reliably exceeds 10°C.
The first photo is of the seedling I photographed last week.
You can already see there are some differences in leaf shape, which is partially due to genetics, partially because two seedlings may either have trouble with too acidic compost clumps (should have stirred better) or with fan air - these are two typical causes of leaves twisting. They should straighten out with time.
at this stage you can nicely see the octahedral symmetry of the plant, which dissolves with age.
apparently a bug found its way into the house and nomed on one of the leaves. or it's an organism. i'm not worried yet.
