The recent researching finding amino acids, nucleobases, and such on asteroids is certainly fascinating, but I'm a little puzzled. Space rocks are being suggested as a source for the building blocks of life on Earth.

But is Earth not a space rock too? If these compounds can occur naturally on asteroids, why would we assume they couldn't also occur naturally on Earth?

@mytwobits01 Would it not have been too hot on Earth at one point? Therefore needing a re-supply of un-denatured building blocks...sheer speculation.

I guess it depends on what process creates the molecules, and when/whether those conditions were present on Earth.
