Commissioner Séjourné held 84 meetings on #deregulation. All 84 were with business groups. Not one civil society org. Not one. This isn't consultation. This is what corporate capture looks like. 🧵 Check out our new report 👇 corporateeurope.org/en/2026/04/w...

Where do the EU deregulation laws come from? From extensive talks between the European Commission and business groups, often in opaque new types of dialogue, according to the report “This is what corporate capture looks like!”

The EU is on an unprecedented deregulation track. The rules that protect us and our environment, and climate policies, social and digital rights, are being rolled back swiftly and systematically. The EU Commission, still dubs it “simplification”, but there is no denying it is deregulation.
In the beginning, the Commission did deny it. As when Simplification Commissioner Dombrovskis said in Nov 24 it was “not about deregulation or diminishing our high standards”. Since then he has done little else than diminish standards in collusion with corporations, our report shows.
While deregulation campaigns are nothing new to Brussels politics, this one stands out with its scope and methodology. Also, corporate lobbyists and other business representatives are invited in to take a major role, which threatens to set the direction for the EU even further into the future.
‘Better Regulation’ was a formula for making laws and law-making more business friendly. But the current model takes the ‘simplification’ agenda to new levels: corporate involvement in decision-making (including the preparation of proposals) is unprecedented. We need #rulestoprotect all of us!
Corporations are writing EU law. We need to: ✊ defend ethical standards ✊ stop corporate capture ✊ drop all rigged consultation methods that allow corporate lobbyists to dominate ✊ a broad based campaign to defend and expand the protection of the public interest corporateeurope.org/en/2026/04/w...
