I have heard that this is a widespread problem. It took us more than an hour to work through it.

And I anticipate that this is the kind of hoop that el-cheato's SAVE act will require of voters....

We just tried to e-file our Federal tax returns.

But we needed our ID PIN from the IRS - which changes every year.

The IRS is supposed to send a letter each January to each taxpayer who has opted into the ID PIN system. The letter contains that years PIN number.

We never got that number.

So our e-file was rejected.

We had to go the IRS website - deal with our id.me credentials - and fetch the proper PIN value.

Part of this involved establishing a second id.me account - which requires a smart phone (or computer with scanner), a lot of text messages, biometric scans, and other stuff that would drive many people to run away screaming.

@karlauerbach

Hmm. . . I used an ID pin# ito file my 2024 return but I don't e-file.

So, I doubt the #IRS will reject my return & the payment I send with this but I',ll look into this

Thanks for the info
