Today i fixed up a drill press my dad gave me. I was trying to drill a hole in glass but i had never used this thing before and it needed love
The pulley attached to the motor was wobbling but when i removed it the motor was fine. Turns out it was missing a set screw so the D shaped shaft was moving faster than the pulley attached to it. Once i drilled a new hole in the pulley and tapped it the thing was much better
I don't think it'll push that hard with the contact the bolt makes (the "D" looks like it was made with a grinder and someone got tired) but it will be enough for glass and small things
Well that worked well!
I taped the entire outside with packaging tape just in case it shattered, and then i taped it to the drill press so it wouldn't move in relation to the bit
Stop every time it makes a bad sound - or it stops making the worst sound - vacuum, repeat
Pressure was a little hard to gauge with the auto retract spring on the mandrill but as long as there wasn't too big a pile of glass dust i could see how much material was moving, and I'm pretty sure at some point glass gets under the bit and the sound changes and it stops moving material. That's why i stop to vacuum
This only took me 25 minutes, lol
