FOSSism · /ˈfɔːʃɪzəm/ or fawsh-iz-um · noun
A militant branch of the open source movement that delights in telling absolutely anyone that 'they are doing it wrong'. One of the fundamental social problems holding the Fediverse back. Nearly always a white dude.
@scottjenson aw :/ militant brand of open source movement sounded so rad
@sammypanda Shucks, should have been 'branch', just fixed it.
@scottjenson This made my whole morning :D Thanks!

@scottjenson I’m increasingly experiencing it, and I wonder if it boils down to a lack of empathy.

There’s regularly a mob mentality on the Fediverse that I don’t experience elsewhere.

@thibaultamartin My theory is that it's cultural. There was a small insular community that used CWs, Hashtags, and Alt Text, and then in came "the hordes" and didn't do it EXACTLY right and they got pissed that their community was no longer "pure".

We need to a) relax a bit and b) understand that not everyone is going to do everything you want.

@scottjenson @thibaultamartin
We need to relax a *whole lot* and embrace completely different ways to use this platform.

@scottjenson It happens inside the FOSS/Open Source community. The fediverse thing is just tip of an iceberg.

It's Alt-tech side of the FOSS.
